March

Hello walkers, our February walk was enjoyed by sixteen adventurers enjoying our trip to Barangaroo. We alighted the train at Wynyard, making our way to “The Cutaway” where we used the lift to the Stargazer Lawn area for morning tea break. We then took the stairs and walkway to the lower level following the path to Pier 8 and then the pier walk along Walsh Bay for our photo shoot at Ives Steps before continuing on to Circular Quay for lunch in the park. Afterwards taking the Light Rail to Townhall for our return home.

Our walk for March will be Monday 27th, travelling south to Bulli and walk the coastal path back to Austinmer. Catch the Waterfall train platform 2, 2nd last carriage, Sutherland 8-53am, Loftus 8-55am, Engadine 9-00am, Heathcote 9-03am, then an 8 min wait for the Coast train to Bulli station.

Come enjoy a great day out by the seaside with our friendly group, the walk length is approx. 5km with lunch at Austinmer beach. Make sure you bring water, lunch and Opal card.

April
Hello walkers, our March walk was endured by 10 hardy souls, I say endured because of an unforeseen train delay which caused us to miss our connection at Waterfall, meaning a one hour wait for the next train to Bulli. Aside from that we then decided on a toilet stop at Bulli station, but guess where the single toilet is, yep on the North bound platform which is accessed via a lift at the FAR end of the platform, across the road bridge, lift down, walk to the other end and then a 10 person wait before we finally left the station! We made our way to the coastal path at Bulli Beach heading toward Sandon Point, past McCauley’s Beach, reaching Thirroul for a coffee break on the beachfront. We continued the coastal path until it linked up with Lawrence Hargrave Drive, taking us to Austinmer where we had lunch overlooking the beach. Our train from Austinmer station back to Waterfall was due in just over half an hour so we made our way up the hill and after a short wait at Waterfall caught our train home. There is NO WALK FOR APRIL as the last Monday is the day before Anzac Day and may not fit in with most walkers, so the MAY walk at this stage will be the Como Heritage trail from Como Station through Paruna Reserve to Como Pleasure Grounds on Monday 22nd May, details will be in the May newsletter.
May
Monday 22nd MayHello walkers, get your shoes ready for our walk.Catch our normal train, Heathcote 8:38am, Engadine 8:41am, Loftus 8:45am Second last carriage. We will alight at Sutherland & catch the 8:56 train to Como. From there we will pick up the Como Heritage Trail which takes us to the river foreshore through a bush track and eventually the “Pleasure Grounds” at Como thence round to Como Hotel and then to Como Station. There are a few steps and moderate inclines but slow and steady will be the way to go. Make sure you have your lunch, drink and Opal card, come and enjoy a walk in the tranquil setting and learn a little of the areas history.
June
Hello walkers, we had thirteen hardy adventurers on our walk around Como last month, and although it was a bit arduous, we all survived. Starting at Como station we took the lift/stairs to Como Parade and then around the streets to Henry Lawson Reserve for morning tea. From there we made our way down to Paruna Reserve following the Heritage Trail, some found the bush track quite challenging, but we all survived to make our way through the underpass to Como Pleasure Grounds, stopping at Blackfish Cafe for a coffee break. We then continued to Scylla Bay oval, opposite Como Hotel where we had lunch and photo shoot, then to the station for our trip home.Monday 26th June – we will be travelling to Narrabeen via train and bus for an easy walk around north Narrabeen. Come and visit a part of Sydney you may not normally venture to, the bus ride alone is a modern double-decker, affording great views of the northern suburbs we pass through. The walk is flat walkway and streets, no hills!Catch our normal train, Heathcote 8:38am, Engadine 8:41am, Loftus 8:45am Second last carriage, change at Town Hall to Wynyard where we catch the bus to Narrabeen. Bring your lunch, water and Opal card.
July
Hello walkers, we had a nice walk around Narrabeen Lagoon last month, our group of 15 enjoyed the sunshine [and wind] catching the double decker bus from Wynyard, through the northern suburbs, arriving at Narrabeen’s Berry Reserve around 10-30, just in time for a coffee break at the Lake Cafe, deciding to “dine in” due to the cold wind [good choice]. From there we continued on, crossing Pittwater Road, making our way to Narrabeen Beach round the lagoon via the walkway past the caravan park to the beach where we stopped for lunch, taking time for a photo shoot before a short stop to view the beach from the surf club park area. From there we made our way back to the shopping strip via Ocean St, then Waterloo St to catch the bus back to the city. Our next walk will be on Monday 24th July, Rydalmere to Parramatta following the river via the walkway/cycle path.Catch our normal train, Heathcote 8:38am, Engadine 8:41am, Loftus 8:45am Second last carriage, to Circular Quay for the Rivercat Ferry to Rydalmere.Bring your lunch, water and Opal card, there will be an opportunity at Parramatta for a coffee stop before catching the ferry back to the city.
August
Hello walkers, well our walk last month to Parramatta was enjoyed by 14 walkers, catching the Rivercat to Rydalmere, under cloudy skys we alighted the ferry and followed the riverbank to James Ruse Drive where we crossed the bridge to the western side but due to construction work we had to make a detour via the roadway to access the riverside walk, stopping for a lunch break at the HMAS Parramatta memorial in Robin Thomas Reserve. After our lunch we split up, some opting to return home by train and the rest catching the ferry back to Circular Quay where we enjoyed a coffee and cake before getting the train home. Our next walk will be Monday 28th August, Sans Souci to Brighton Le-Sands via the beachfront walkway.Catch our normal train, Heathcote 8:38am, Engadine 8:41am, Loftus 8:45am Second last carriage to Sutherland then to Miranda, and bus to Sans Souci via Taren Point. When we get to Brighton, we will catch the bus to Rockdale Station.Bring your lunch, water and Opal card and maybe an umbrella in case of wet weather. Come enjoy a pleasant stroll beside Botany Bay.
