Wednesday 19^th February – Quarantine Station Wharf Wander Tour – Manly Cost $71pp (PAYMENT DUE NOW)

Our Coach will depart Anzac Oval 8:30am and travel to North Head where we will have morning tea provided, consisting of a selection of cakes and fruits, tea/coffee before our guide takes us on our tour.

The Q Station protected Sydney residents from Epidemic Diseases such as Smallpox, Spanish Influenza and Bubonic Plague for over 150 years.

The tour takes approximately one hour and takes in the Wharf and Hospital precincts and gives us a good introduction to the history of the area.

NOTE:  PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE ENCLOSED SHOES.

After the tour we will board our bus and travel to the Harbord Diggers Club for lunch. We have a choice from 3 mains: 

Roast of the Day with vegetables

Fish, Chips and Salad

Chicken Caesar Salad with poached egg and homemade dressing Cake to follow.

DAY ONE:  Your journey to the South Coast & a visit to Mogo Zoo & Mogo Village. It is an easy journey of about 250 kilometres. We are lunching at the Zoo before we go exploring.

DAY TWO:  Homeward bound via Braidwood and the Hinterland. Lunch at the Mercure Hotel Goulburn.

Everything included except our morning teas which are at our own expense, this gives us a chance to support the small businesses of the area.

I have asked Rod & Colleen to organise this little trip so we can do our very tiny bit for the fire ravaged communities of the South Coast.

The successful meeting talked through a range of function logistics and agreement was reached on all matters. Should a member have a special dietary requirement please advise Col Bingham. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 5th May and then Tuesday 2nd June, the latest date a decision can be made, in consultation with Club Engadine, whether or not the function is to proceed or is to be cancelled

 Covid 19

Well 2020 has been a tough year for our Probus Club in one way and another, but, as the song goes “we are all in this together”.

• O’Nite stay Batemans Bay / Mogo Zoo. At the moment we are planning to visit our fire ravaged South Coast. This is booked for Thursday 23^rd/Friday 24^th July and this will remain the case until the date of our next General Meeting on Tuesday 19^th May (via videoconferencing). By then we should know if we can go or indeed if they want us if the Coronavirus is still around.

An alternative date for Batemans Bay / Mogo Zoo has been arranged with the bus company if the trip cannot go ahead. The alternative/tentative dates are overnight 25^th March 2021 travelling home Friday 26^th March 2021.

• Lightning Ridge Sunday 20^th to 26^th September 2020. At the moment all seems good for this date so we will remain hopeful. If the trip cannot go ahead then an alternate date is 12^th to 18^th September 2021.

At the moment all remains the same. For those worried about their deposits DON’T. The Bus Company has assured me if tour is cancelled due to Coronavirus restrictions then all monies will be refunded.

  30th Anniversary Luncheon 

The Anniversary Committee will meet on Tuesday 5^th May when it will discuss whether or not the function should go ahead or wait until 2^nd June to decide. At this time, it is considered to be in doubt.

• Mogo Zoo / O’Nite stay Batemans Bay. We are getting closer to getting there. I am feeling very optimistic, the Zoo is ready to take us and the Motel at Batemans Bay is ready to go, we just have a couple of hurdles.

We need Gladys to give the green light for a 1 night stop over and the Coaches to be able to carry a full load, at the moment it is 25 people.

This info will stand until the end of May, then I will have to go to plan “B” which is in March next year. Rod has been able to arrange a date for us, Thursday 25^th to Friday 26^th March 2021. Please put the date in the diary.

• Lightning Ridge Sunday 20^th to 26^th September 2020. This holiday will remain as is until the JULY The July Meeting is also PAYMENT time for this holiday. I won’t collect any money if this is not a goer.

We also have a plan “B” and the dates for this is 12^th to 18^th September 2021. Put these dates in your diary also.

• Star City Buffet Luncheon – I feel this will be a no go. In the current environment, Star City has temporarily closed the Harvest Buffet, effective from the 19^th
• Let’s hope we can have a November luncheon & we can all get together as we used to do.

30^th Anniversary Function

The 30^th Anniversary luncheon has been postponed to Monday 14^th December 2020 and the decision to postpone was made with input from Club Engadine.

The 14^th December date is when we normally hold our Christmas lunch, we will think through the details over the coming period and the 30^th Anniversary Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 7^th July 2020.

All decisions will depend on what social restrictions are in place around this time.

30th Anniversary Luncheon

Probus Club of Engadine celebrates its 30^th Anniversary on Friday 19^th June 2020. The club looks forward to the time when we can celebrate the occasion together and acknowledge the contributions of our foundation members and subsequent committees for developing the club into the success it is today with the values of fun, friendship and fellowship.

Club Engadine RSL has confirmed a tentative booking for Monday 14^th December, subject to restrictions applying at the time.

Next meeting for the 30^th Anniversary Committee is scheduled for Tuesday 7^th July.

Club Heathcote functions are restricted to 97 people and they are taking bookings on the basis that Covid does not flare up again and shut the Club down. The Club’s licence is to open at 2pm on Monday’s and they suggest Wednesday is a better day when the caterer opens in the evening and would most likely be happy to start earlier. No decision has been made.

The meeting reviewed the task list and confirmed most tasks were covered, and a function could be arranged in a short timeframe. Therefore, it will schedule its next meeting for Tuesday 6^th October 2020 at 1.30pm at Club Engadine RSL.

30^th Anniversary/ Christmas lunch

The 30^th Anniversary Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday 6^th October was cancelled as restrictions still apply and the Committee did not think it could advance arrangements any further.

The Management Committee discussed the current restrictions at its meeting on 13^th October and agreed to cancel the event. The reasons include the ongoing uncertainty with Covid, insufficient time to collect names/money etc and this decision should also give our members some certainty.

I do not think anyone of us would be surprised by this decision and hopefully the Club can do something in 2021.

I would like to thank the 30^th Anniversary Committee for their contribution.

Membership to Club Heathcote

The 12-month membership to Club Heathcote soon expires and members can renew their membership by going to the bar at the Club.

Planning for 2021

At last week’s Committee meeting, the Committee considered the current financial statement and at its January 2021 meeting will consider a number of scenarios on how to give something back to the membership, assuming restrictions have been eased.
