Our APRIL outing is in the planning stages. We are hoping to get a suitable date to visit THE VICTOR CHANG CARDIAC RESEARCH INSTITUTE for a tour and lunch afterwards. Departing Engadine Oval at 8.30am we make our way to the Institute at St. Vincent’s Hospital where we will be taken on a 1.5-hour guided tour.  On arrival we will be served a complimentary morning tea.  We will be divided into smaller groups and a research scientist will explain the work that is taking place while we visit a couple of research laboratories.

After an interesting morning we make our way to our lunch venue at the Newmarket Hotel, Mascot where we will enjoy a 2-course lunch.  A list will be handed round the coach and you will be able to pick what you would like to eat from a menu.

Following lunch, we will travel to Paddington Reservoir Gardens, an award-winning venue in Sydney that has been transformed from its former life. 

The reservoir was a vital source of water for the rapidly growing population in the 19th century.  It ceased supplying water in 1899 and the site has been through a couple of uses since, including a garage and a petrol station.  It is now state heritage-listed.  We can stroll through the gardens and boardwalks at our own pace.  There are places to sit and have a rest and time permitting, we may be able to take a quick look at the Paddo shops.  We will arrive back at Engadine round              4.30 – 5.00pm 

 

Our next Club lunch will be local at the Cronulla RSL which has stunning views over the water. Sheet will be out on the table at March meeting.

We depart the Anzac Oval at 8am and make our way to Kurrajong Radio Museum. The Museum offers nostalgic trip through the golden years of radio. You do not need to have any technical knowledge to enjoy this comprehensive collection. All of the several hundred items are individually labelled for easy recognition. This museum is not designed to be dark, dingy and dormant. It is light and very much alive. There are lots of sounds to listen to. Morse Keys and buzzers just waiting to be warmed by fingers, teleprinters to be tried and several hundred ratios and related items to be looked at. You can look into a Broadcast Control Room and check out the AWA Room to see what a once great Australian company achieved. There are radios from the Outback, tanks, ships and aircraft – maybe even one like your Granny had at home. Come and be amazed. Our Guide Ian will give us morning tea on arrival and a great 2-hour tour.

We then continue onto the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens at Tomah which is Australia’s premier cool-climate botanic garden. The garden is perfectly situated in the World Heritage Listed Greater Blue Mountains of NSW. With sweeping vistas over the mountains and more than 40,000 native, exotic and rare plants, the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden is home for over 100 species of birds, marsupials, lizards and insects. Mount Tomah provides a wonderful habitat and a rich source of floral nectar all year round.

We will lunch here in the Potager Café before doing a self-guided tour of the gardens.

We will return home by approximately 5.30pm.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

Monday 15th July – Christmas in July at Gardens on Forest, Peakhurst. Welcome drink on arrival, traditional Christmas 2 course luncheon. Entertainment will be “Olivia Newton-John” @ Dorothy Cooper. Coach will leave bus stop Engadine swimming pool at 11am and arrive back approx..3.30pm. With a full coach of 65 persons, the cost will be $65pp payable at the May/June meetings.

CHRISTMAS INJULY

.Monday 15tJulyChristmas in July at Gardens on Forest, Peakhurst.

How fortunate were we to have such a wonderful Christmas in July celebration at The Gardens on Forest last Monday. Food was good, drinks at reasonable prices and Dorothy, the entertainer was a bit ordinary until she sought help from the heehore/heehaw duet. I have made application for a fee return for the donkey/jackass duet. I am sad that some of our members missed the outing through sickness and other reasons.

We depart the Anzac Oval at 8am and make our way to Kurrajong Radio Museum. The Museum offers nostalgic trip through the golden years of radio. Our Guide Ian will give us morning tea on arrival and a great 2-hour tour.

We then continue onto the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens at Tomah which is Australia’s premier cool-climate botanic garden.  We will lunch here in the Potager Café before doing a self-guided tour of the gardens.  We will return home by approximately 5.30pm.

AUGUST UPDATE:  My apologies to those people I have been chasing for money & had already paid through Direct Deposit.  We have a little glitch in our system and I am sure we will have it rectified before next month. If I am not advised of the payment, I don’t know it has been made.

     30th Anniversary Luncheon       

The celebration of our 30th Anniversary will be held on Monday 22nd June 2020 at

Engadine RSL Club.

Don Munro has agreed to become a member of the organising committee.

Wednesday 19th February – Quarantine Station Wharf Wander Tour – Manly


Our Coach will depart Anzac Oval 8:30am and travel to North Head where we will have morning tea provided, consisting of a selection of cakes and fruits, tea/coffee before our guide takes us on our tour.

The Q Station protected Sydney residents from Epidemic Diseases such as Smallpox, Spanish Influenza and Bubonic Plague for over 150 years.

The tour takes approximately one hour and takes in the Wharf and Hospital precincts and gives us a good introduction to the history of the area.

NOTE:  PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE ENCLOSED SHOES.

After the tour we will board our bus and travel to the Harbord Diggers Club for lunch. We have a choice from 3 mains: 

Roast of the Day with vegetables

Fish, Chips and Salad

Chicken Caesar Salad with poached egg and homemade dressing Cake to follow.

Total cost will be between $68 to $75 per person, depending on numbers. More people less cost involved.
