BOWLS                                                                                                                                      

The first bowls event for 2019 will be held on Monday 8^th April at the Engadine Bowling and Recreation Club. The day shall be hosted by our Club.

A Registration List and details will be available at the January meeting.In response to a number of enquiries from members regarding “barefoot bowls”, at the December meeting we intend to call for” expression of interests” for an afternoon of fun in mid to late February on a Thursday, say, starting at 3.30pm and finishing around 5.30pm. The day and times have a degree of flexibility but will ultimately be controlled by the availability of Green space.

Further, you do not have to be a registered bowler to participate.

For those who are interested, we have arranged a game of Barefoot Bowls on Tuesday 5 March, from 4:00pm until 5:45pm, of course registered bowlers are also welcome to attend. 

Details as follows:

• Bowls will be supplied
• Barefoot or flat sole shoes to be worn
• Cost is $8.00 per head for all participants

Nominations will be accepted today, please see Grahame or Ron at morning tea.  Alternatively ring us before the end of February to add your name.  If you change your mind please notify us ASAP.

Also, we will be hosting our Annual Probus Bowls Day on Monday 8^th April, for registered bowlers. We are looking forward to catching up with friends from other Probus Clubs in the Shire.

            Arrive:             11:45am for morning tea and check-in for a 12:30pm start

            Cost:                $14 per head, with a snack being provided during the game.

            Format:           Men’s/mixed triples or Men’s mixed fours.

Entry sheet is on the table for those interested.

 The initial afternoon of bare foot lawn bowls was held on Tuesday 5th March. Eighteen adventurous members had an afternoon of challenge and merriment

 The after was such a success; it is intended to have another afternoon in the Spring.

A major thank you to Judy Membrey for her efforts in spending hours making wraps for lunch with her helpers. Also, Harry Membrey was up at 5am to assist and then come and sell raffle tickets, before spending 3 hours on the green. Also, Judy supervised the morning teas as well as serving lunch. Other valuable contributions for the day included John & Lorraine Martin (collection and balancing entry fees) Elaine Burt (compiling all the team sheets and doing various jobs required throughout the day). 

Monday 27^th May – Kurranulla Probus Club are hosting a bowls day at Sylvania Bowling Club. Enquiries please contact Ron or Grahame.

Weather aside, all had an enjoyable game of lawn bowls.

Unfortunately, there were a number of withdrawals by our members after nominations had been submitted which initially caused a few headaches for the host club as such dislocated the Draw.

However, our non probus bowling friends from Engadine Bowling Club came to the rescue to fill the vacancies; remembering that the Day is a “team day “.

Another enjoyable afternoon hosted by the Kurranulla Probus Club was had by our Lawn Bowls members at Taren Point Bowling Club on Mondays 1^st July.

Monday 26^th August - An invitation has been received from the Probus Club of Gymea-Miranda for a bowls after, for registered bowlers, at Gymea Bowling Club.

 Monday 26^th August – Our next Lawn Bowls Day will be held at Gymea Bowling Club, hosted by the Probus Club of Miranda. 

Nominations have now closed. A cross check of those bowling members who nominated at the July meeting shall be undertaken at the August meeting. 

Those bowlers who have not nominated and are wanting a game, could you please see Ron Burt at the August meeting to see if he can get you a game as a late starter.

The Day shall conclude the Probus Lawn Bowls Calendar for 2019.
